Yesterday I had a really hard day. I slept bad the night before. I had worked a full week and was just super tired and on top of that it was the most tiresome day of the past days, and as all of you with kids know: children don't have a 'slow-down-gear' and they seem to occupy some source of eternal energy (I'm wondering at what age do we lose that?). Today I have my first free day, time to relax a little bit, look around in the city, organize myself again and set my mind right for another week. Anyway ... That is actually not what I want to talk about now.
What I do want to share with you is this. Just on that one little moment of doubt yesterday that I felt ready to say: 'this is to hard for me', I got a message from my aunt IB. I found it so intensely beautiful and it gave me the strength and eagerness to go on. I hope you can all feel what I feel when reading it. I can't seem to find the real author of the little text, but pope Franciscus (hoe toepasselijk!) pops up a lot in Google when I look for the autor. And to be honest, who else better to give me strength in this mission than the pope himself. Anyway, if anyone knows if the pope is the real author or not, please let me know, another source that pops up sometimes is called 'Rincon del Alma'.

In 1990, after over 40 years of almost constant activity, Mother Teresa began to have trouble with her heart. After she had a heart attack in 1989, a pacemaker was inserted. She offered to resign as head of the Missionaries, but no replacement was available. She agreed to remain on the job. Regardless of the fact she was still recovering from a serious illness the previous year, she insisted on keeping up her frantic pace. Traveling through the countries of eastern Europe took two months. She also spent many days at Calcutta’s Home for the Destitute and Dying. Doctors told her she should "slow down." Her reply: "I have all eternity to rest, and there is still much to do ... Life is not worth living unless it is lived for others."
Maar, en sommige bronnen spreken van een gelijkaardige quote, andere bronnen vermelden het als de originele quote : "A life not lived in service to others is a life not worth living", door Einstein. Of in het Spaans : "Una vida no vivida al servicio de los demás, (es una vida que) no merece ser vivida."
