I'm leaving on a jetplane, don't know when I'll be back again

8 oktober 2018 - Cancún, Mexico

After an emotional goodbye to Pieter, Marlies, Senne and Elise I was finally ready to start my journey. It felt very unreal. Lots of dreaming, planning, it felt for a moment my whole life had inescapably converged to this moment. Without any real troubles I left Belgium. After some reading, watching 2 movies ('red sparrow' and from the kidz-section 'Ferdinand' ), one very shitty airplane-meal and some poker games on the "keep-our-guests-from-boredom-so-they-leave-us-alone-interface" we arrived in (rainy! Warm but rainy) Cancun, on time as scheduled, thank you TUI, 'I discovered my smile'. After recollecting my luggage and going through some (necessary??) paperwork with some Mexicans who's job it is not to smile, I set foot on Mexican ground. I changed euros in Mexican pesos at a rate of 18,3 which was in my opinion a good deal and I found an official taxi-shuttle service who brought me to my hostel for 170 pesos. The taxi driver was very friendly, we had a nice conversation in Spanish. Well, he had a conversation in Spanish, I had a conversation in Spanish-ish, I promise I will get better at it. Anyway, an hour later (biggest traffic jam the driver had ever been in, there had been a car-accident) he dropped me of at hostel coco in Calle rosas and I tipped Victor the taxi driver another 30 pesos. The guy was super happy ... Didn't know you could make people that happy with less than 2 euros (but maybe understandable since his salary is only 4 US-dollar/day, if we can believe him). Hostel coco is really my thing. When driving through Cancun I hated everything about it, it is one big American circus. But in the middle of this American circus there is one funky alternative neighborhood with a lot of beautiful street art. And hostel coco is placed right in the middle of this neighborhood. On top of that the busstation where I need to be to take the bus to Tuxtla happened to be only about a 5 minute walk from hostel coco and I found as well in the neighborhood a restaurant (it is called 100%natural) where I had an amazingly tasty vegan dinner for like no money. I didn't know beforehand that hostel coco was placed so good for me, I just selected coco because it was cheap and alternative, if I was religious I would thank all of my Gods now. I'll just say, Eywa has heard me. I went to sleep happy but early, the jetlag took up with me around 8 p.m. local time so I called it an early night. Of course I was wide awake at 5 a.m. but that doesn't matter, if I can get out of bed I like early days, it is 7:52 a.m. and I had already a swim under the rising sun (yes coco has an outside pool!), a shower and I wrote this blog post, talking about being productive! Now I'm going for breakfast because I have seen they were preparing all kinds of fresh exotic fruits (O didn't I tell yet, if hostel coco was not amazing enough, it did only cost me 120 pesos and breakfast is included, and it looks delicious!) at 2 p.m. I need to be at the ADO bus station to go to Tuxtla so maybe I can even catch another meal in 100%natural.
